Sales of organic products in Brazil reached 350 million Brazilian real in 2010 (159m euros), which is 40% growth. This is reported by the Brazilian control body IBD.
They refer to information published by the Brazil Organics Project, a non-governmental organization (NGO) that brings together companies exporting organic products and inputs.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, nearly 5,500 producers already comply with the new rules for organic production. With effect from 1January, products sold on the retail market as organic should bear the Brazilian Organic Conformity Seal.
